8.9.1 Start and End of a Work Term
The work term usually begins on the first Monday of the first month of
the term and ends on the last Friday of the fourth month of the term, but
depending on the calendar, it may begin and end on different days. Please
check the Undergraduate
Important Dates in Quest for work term start and end dates for current
and upcoming work terms. Depending on the needs of your employer, your start
and end dates may not exactly match those printed here.
8.9.2 Required Length of a Work Term
- You are required to work full time for the four consecutive months of your work term.
- Work term start and end dates are set by the University and are published
in the Calendar of Events and Academic Deadlines of the Undergraduate Calendar page.
- Work terms are measured by the number of weeks of employment, not the number of hours.
- Should you begin your work term earlier than the published work term start date, you are still expected to continue your employment until the published work term end date.
- If your work term begins late or ends early for reasons beyond your control, the minimum work term length must be not less than twelve weeks (full-time employment).
- Should you obtain employment at a point in the term at which you are unable to work for the full twelve weeks please consult with your co-op advisor immediately.
8.9.3 Vacation, Time Off
Employers are not required to provide you with a vacation or any time away from your job. However, it may be possible for you to take a day or two off during a work term. Employers may agree if the request is reasonable. They are also not required to provide time off for statutory holidays (but usually do).
See information on vacation pay.
