Student Verification Letters

Students have, in the past, made requests for CECS staff to produce letters that verify co-op work terms, academic terms, etc. However recent changes to University of Waterloo Policy 19 (release of student information) no longer permit this practice. Requests for these letters must now go to the Registrar’s Office.

UW students going on work terms outside of Canada may require a verification letter from UW for the following reasons:
  • To acquire a student specific visa or work permit for another country
  • To inform the local provincial health office if you will be out of Canada on UW study/work purposes for more than 7 months in a 12 month period
  • To acquire student discounts (e.g. public transportation pass in the UK, rent, etc.)
  • To verify student status (e.g. for income tax purposes in the UK)
Please go to the Customer Service Counter in the Registrar’s Office or http://www.registrar.uwaterloo.ca/forms/index.html to locate and request on-line this "to whom it may concern" letter.

Please note that there is a cost of $10 associated with obtaining this letter from the Registrar’s Office.

Also include additional applicable processing fees below:
  • $4.00 (if in Canada) $10.00 (outside Canada) per letter fee if you are requesting that letter(s) be faxed
  • $10.00 per letter fee if you are requesting that letter(s) be sent by courier in Ontario
  • $20.00 per letter fee if you are requesting that letter(s) be sent by courier to other Canadian Provinces
  • $25.00 per letter fee if you are requesting that letter(s) be sent by courier outside of Canada
